Chapters and Feral Raccoons—Who Knew?

So… fun fact: the apocalypse didn’t just appear in my books.

It joined the party with my laptop as you might have noted in my previous post. Well the new laptop didn’t go any better than the old one and is now on a return trip to the cheap seats where it belongs. Ugh…

The moment my keyboard decided that R, E, and T were no longer necessary to the English language was inconvenient when trying to write words like there, were, return, or… the. For a while I was out here writing like a half-feral scavenger, duct-taping sentences together and hoping no one noticed.

Add in a few real-life plot twists — the kind no writer would dare use because no one would believe them — and yeah. Chapters here kind of stopped. But that does not mean they are unwritten. The first 5 books in this series is fully written and going through edits that you see posted here. So hang on, there is so much more to come!

As you can see there are “R”s in this post so something is happening…Right? Well… I do have a desktop and this is where I sit—for now. I will need a new laptop but I’ll have to save up for it. Here is where you come in…

Chapters are back, and I’m not being too restrained or careful about their emergence. I’m dropping one every other day slinging chapters around like that feral racoon until I’ve caught the story up to where it belongs and because of this, subscribing will bring lots of reading and help me to get that new laptop.

But here’s the thing about Fire & Ash. It doesn’t stop. It might fracture or get singed around the edges, but then it keeps going, and I wanted to take a moment in the editing of these chapters to share another aspect of this project.

The origin series which you read now in the Year of Ruin is the beginning of everything that breaks and decides what kind of monsters or survivors the people in this story becomes. And here’s where it gets interesting.

Fire & Ash was never meant to belong to just one voice.

It’s a landscape of collapse and impossible choices, and there are a thousand stories buried in the moment everything ended. I’m building an anthology around the day the bombs fell — told through different eyes, different places, different fates that everyone is encouraged to join in and the guidelines are now available.

These stories don’t have to come from me. It is time to see what you think the apocalypse should look like!

If you’re a reader — now is the time to step in. You get the story as it unfolds, chapter by chapter, right here. Head to fire-n-ash.com and check out all the things in this world.

If you’re a writer — consider yourself invited. Come play in the ashes. Burn something down. Tell me who your characters were on the last normal day, or the first terrible one afte. The Write With Us page is waiting and the landscape is vast. The story needs some intrigue or thrilling action in the before times, maybe survival of brave visionaries who choose to escape into the dark expanse of space, or a humble corner of your hometown, spared the worst but now a target for the worst humanity has to offer.

Because not everyone saw the end the same way.

And not everyone is going to survive what comes next.

Let’s get back to it.

If you’d rather just wait for these books to release you could always help out by choosing to

I appreciate all those who follow and share,

-DJ
